Bring the fall season to your outdoor space with these fun patio decorating ideas.
Fall is here! If you live in California, you may not be feeling the seasons change just yet but that doesn’t mean you have to wait to welcome autumn to your outdoor spaces. Use these fall decorating ideas to get your patio and porch areas ready for the season.
Pumpkin Planter: Give your planters a seasonal feel that will require very little maintenance by swapping out your summer blooms for a fall look in a warm autumn palette. Nestle a pumpkin slightly smaller than the top of your planter in the soil, then surround with mums, calendulas and other fall flowers.
Lantern Love: With the winds autumn brings, you likely won’t be lighting any candles in your lanterns. Put them to a good alternative use by filling them instead with fall items like mini pumpkins (white ones are a great way to add interest and elegance to your patio), pinecones, squash or colorful fall leaves.
Creative Carving: Instead of your usual Jack O’ Lantern carving, give your pumpkin a professional look by using a dremel-type tool to get perfect circles and other shapes. With the differently sized rotary attachments, you can have more control with your design and create interesting patterns. Alternatively, you can paint your pumpkins with metallic or glow-in-the-dark paint. Stencil your family monogram for a classic, impactful motif. The bonus of painting, rather than carving, your pumpkins is that they will last longer and can be used as décor throughout the season!
