Halloween health tips for your kids! Establishing healthy habits at a young age is important. The habits you help your kid develop now, will last for years to come! However, with Halloween right around the corner, it’s important to be wary of Halloween candy. While candy is a tasty treat, it’s full of sugar and fat that can negatively impact your child’s health. Make this Halloween your healthiest yet, and learn how to keep your kid’s candy habits in place with these tips! Think Small. Portion size is everything when it comes to developing health habits. Remember that your kids are small and that their portion sizes should reflect their tiny stomachs. Allow your kids to eat their Halloween candy in small doses, but keep in mind that a single serving should be no more than 100 calories. That way your kids can enjoy a treat without going overboard!
The Importance of Moderation. It’s okay to let your kids enjoy their childhood and have a little candy! Trick-or-treating is a rite of passage when it comes to growing up. However, that doesn’t mean that they should eat all their candy in one sitting. The key to a healthy relationship with sweets is to enjoy them in moderation. Use Halloween as the perfect opportunity to teach your little ones about eating treats of any sort in moderation.
Swap Candy for Toys. In addition to establishing healthy habits, set a good example. Rather than handing out handfuls of candy this year, help make the neighborhood a bit healthier this Halloween! Switch out unhealthy Halloween candy with Halloween toys. For example, stock up on plenty of spooky temporary tattoos, stickers, and plastic jewelry to hand out instead.
Be Creative. If you’re throwing a Halloween soiree, replace the numerous bowls of candy with homemade healthy treats for all! You can make simple ghost-like treats with bananas and chocolate chips, or scary goblin mouths with apples, peanut butter, and almond slices. By creating healthy options for kids, and adults, you won’t have to monitor their sugar intake as much. You’ll have more time to enjoy your company rather than pestering your kids.
