Our canine companions are like our children, and they deserve to be treated as such. Dogs have special needs and making sure those needs are taken care of is important. Whether you already have a dog, or are planning on adopting one soon, there is one thing all our furry friends need: a dog-friendly, open outdoor space. With these tips, you can create a gorgeous yard that you and your dog will love!
SHADY AREAS One important element to include when creating a dog-friendly yard is shade. Dogs need a cool place to relax, take a nap, and escape from the hot sun. Planting a large shady tree or investing in a dog house is the perfect solution! EXERCISE SPACE Make sure your dog has enough space to run around and let out some energy. Having enough room to fetch a ball, catch a frisbee, and chase a squirrel is important for your dog’s health and well-being. You can achieve this with a spacious grassy area, or a stone path! FRESH WATER Dogs get thirsty too, and they need water to cool off and stay hydrated, so ensuring there is always fresh water available outside when your furry friends need it is important—especially on hot days! Create a designated area for a water bowl, and always check it when you let your dog out. SAFE PLANTS Dogs like to stick their nose in everything, so when deciding what plants and flowers to include in your landscaping, be sure to use dog-friendly plants that are not poisonous. In addition, try to avoid thorny plants that would hurt your canine friends! An easy trick to prevent dogs from digging up your newly planted flowers is to put gravel around them. EASY ACCESS Dogs will ask you to go outside for many reasons: to use the bathroom, frolic in the grass, sunbathe, take a nap, chase a squirrel, etc. Whatever the reason, you want an easy way for them to enter and exit your home. Utilizing our bi-fold, multi-slide, lift and slide, or French swing patio doors is the best way to complete your dog-friendly space. During the summer months, our patio doors can provide you with the indoor-outdoor living experience that everyone (even your dog) dreams of. |
